Invisalign: What to Expect When You Begin Treatment

Invisalign

Invisalign is a revolutionary method that takes the hassle out of teeth straightening. It works by employing clear aligners, which are virtually invisible and significantly more comfortable than metal brackets or wires. Here at Epsom Smiles, we are experts in Invisalign and can give you the perfectly aligned smile of your dreams. Have a question? Please don’t hesitate to call us today!

How Does the Invisalign Process Start?

You must first attend a consultation appointment with your dentist so that they can determine if Invisalign would be the perfect treatment option for you. Factors such as age, oral health, and medical history are all considered. You must also make sure that the treatment aligns with your goals.

It’s essential that you’re willing to wear your Invisalign trays for at least 22 hours per day in order to get the most out of this treatment. If you can’t commit, it likely won’t be as effective and could slow the process significantly. You can also discuss the cost of the procedure and decide whether or not you would like to set up a payment plan over an extended period.

Then What?

To start the process of creating your perfect smile, your dentist will take photos and x-rays of the inside of your mouth. They’ll send this off to an Invisalign technician, who will use this information to create an accurate 3D model of your teeth’s journey to their final position. This model will be used to make your custom clear aligners.

What Happens Once I Get my Aligners?

The dentist will provide you with a series of aligners to help straighten your teeth. These trays should be worn in the order given, with each set lasting two weeks at a time.

Working with Invisalign is all about consistency. If you neglect to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day, this will slow down the movement of teeth and make future sets more challenging to wear as they won’t fit. You should only remove your trays when eating or brushing your teeth. We also recommend using a soft brush to clean them each night and keep bacteria from building up on their surfaces. This will lower your chances of developing gum disease.

What Happens After I Finish My Treatment Plan?

When you’ve finished your treatment, there’s a chance that some teeth may still be misaligned. In this case, we recommend using refinement trays to tweak the final molars into place and ensure they’re perfectly aligned for optimal health! You’ll want to wear your retainers every night for the first few months after your treatment ends. You can reduce how often they are worn to a few times a week after this period. It’s often thought that retainers should only be worn for a short time after you finish your teeth straightening treatment. This is incorrect, as your teeth can shift at any point in your life.
